| Annual Firefighters' Awards Night (1/12/2012) |
Tuesday January 3, 2012 a presentation of awards to three outstanding firefighters from the city of Lancaster was made on behalf of the members of Lancaster Elks Lodge #1625.
During Firefighter Awards Night at the Lodge, awards were presented to three very deserving Firemen, but only two of the individuals were able to be present. Firefighter/Paramedic Ben Sheen was unable to attend due to a work related injury. When able to return to work, he will be presented his awards. Firefighters Don McLaughlin and Mike Linch and their families were in attendance along with the personnel from Fire Station 33, Battalion Chief Cliff Merdith and Assistant Fire Chief Gerald Cosey.
Members of the Dep’t were guests for dinner prior to the program. Firefighter/Paramedic Christian Litz spoke on the Paramedic program from its inception in the late 60’s to present. He also spoke of the many changes the program has undergone over the years to include the training that is required to be certified.
The City of Lancaster was represented by Councilwoman Sandra Johnson. She was accompanied by her husband Marco who is a retired Firefighter from the City of Los Angeles. In her remarks, she expressed her appreciation for the work of the Department in Lancaster. Supervisor Antonovich was again represented by Norm Hickling.
The Lodge awarded each individual a plaque and they received a scroll from both the City of Lancaster and L. A. County.
In attendance were members of the Lancaster Elks Lodge, their spouses and many other deserving firefighters along with their families from throughout the Lancaster area.

| Dictionary Fundraiser (07/22/11) |
|
Lancaster Elks Lodge Dictionary Chairman Ray Pompey PER held his Annual Third Grade Dictionary Fund Raiser on Saturday, July 22nd. A meal of smoked ribs and pulled pork was prepared by Ray's son Mark, of which all enjoyed.
The evening consisted of the meal, and after, a raffle was conducted. The net proceeds is to purchase an additional 1,335 dictionaries.
During the past six years, Ray and his co-chairman Jerry Mundell started Monday Noodle Night and their semi-annual Dictionary Fund Raiser. The purpose has been to gain enough funds to purchase Student's Dictionaries for our Antelope Valley and outlying area third graders at no cost. Without the participation of our LOdge members, their wives and guests, this program wouldn's have happened. To date, over 22,000 dictionaries have been purchased and personally handed to all third graders each school year. The look and joy on their faces was really something when the kids were told the dictionary was theirs to keep.
Ray is pushing for 6,000 dictionaries for this coming school year

| Annual Media Awards (02/24/09) |
|
On February 24,2009, the Lodge recently presented awards to eight media representatives from the Antelope Valley.
The honorees were:
Stan Foster (Lodge 1625 Lodge Web Site Manager)
Jerry Mundell (1625 Newsletter Editor/Publisher)
Dennis Anderson (Antelope Valley Press Editor)
Charles Bostwick (Antelope Valley Press, Managing Editor)
Liane Roth (Antelope Valley Press, Valley Life Editor)
Kim Rawley (Antelope Valley Press, Valley Life Section Editor)
Russ Williams (Time Warner Communications, Manager)
Naomi Huerta (News Producer)
The event chairman, John Brown, opened the evening and spoke on the the importance of the media in promoting the programs and charitable works of the B.P.O. Elks and in publisizing the activities of the Lancaster Elks Lodge. He mentioned that the term of "mass media", which was coined in the 1920s, is the communications process which reaches the most people with the most informaion in the most effective manner. John further noted that, while the Elks depend on newspaper, radio and television to publisize the Elks and their programs, the Internet is the newest media method that is used to promote Elkdom. For many Lodge members, the monthly newsletter is a vital part of reaching out to them with news about their Lodge.
The eight honorees received Certificates of Appreciation and plaques.
All media methodologies were recognized: The Lodge Bulletin Editor/Publisher, the local newspaper The Antelope Valley Press, cable Television Time Warner Coimmunications and the lodge's presence on the Internet(Lodge Webmaster). All activities of interest to the Antelope Valley and the members of the Lodge are published by these media people in a timely manner, and we are pleased to recognize them for their dedication and professional support in the promotion of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and its works.
