Exalted Ruler's May Message
From the Station of Fidelity
I would like to start my article for this month by thanking everyone for the Beautiful Inaugural Ball that was given to me by soooo many talented people. It is an event in my life that I will always remember. and cherish. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
We will be really busy this year with all the events we will be having. Your Officers are planning on making this year "ONE TO REMEMBER" with the help of all of YOU!! It started with the Love Yiur Lodge Camout in April and hopefully will continue through the year.
We may be your Officers but we (and when I say we, I mean every one of us) want input from all you members. Whether its a function you might have in mind that will raise funds for the Lodge or some committee that you think you might like to be on or that you might like to volunteer on, Please let us know. We are ther for you and our Lodge.
Remember, I have said we are here not to be served, but to serve and I really mean it. You are not just members, you are like our families. We care and want the best for all.
If you know someone who you think would be a good member, don't be afraid to them to join . Take them to a couple of our functions a your guest so they can see for themselves how much fun and camaraderie there is in our Lodge. Be an Andy Dumas and always have an application available to give them. I would like to see more members come in this year and the only way to do this is by YOU, my Brothers and Sisters.
Remember: YOU ARE THE LIFELINE OF YOUR LODGE!!!
Until next month, I'll see YOU at the Lodge.
Your Exalted Ruler,
Beverly Jaramillo
Leading Knight's May Message
From the Station of Charity
May is the fifth month of the Gregorian calendar and one of seven months with 31 days. May begins with the sun in the sign of Taurus and ends with the sign of Gemini.
Two special days in May have been designated by Presidential Proclamations. Mother's Day. First observed in 1908 and officially by Congress and the President in 1914. Honoring mother's on the second Sunday in May. The Lodge will honoring mother's at our Lodge Mother's Day Program in the Lodge on Sunday, May 11 at 9:00am.
The third Saturday of the month is Armed Forces day, started in 1950. Prior to that the Army, Navy, and Air Force held separate tributes at separate times. Memorial Day, was declared by the U.S. Congress in 1971, a national holiday and changed the date from May 30 to the last Monday to give workers a three dau weekend. First official observance of Memorial Day occurred in 1868, on the order of General John Alexander Logan.
Another very special meeting will be held Tuesday, May 20; this will be an open meeting to honor the four outstanding scholarship recipients from our Lodge. Two from State and two from Elks National Foundation. This is the first time for Lancaster Elks #1625 history. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending.
Leading Knight is the Staion of Charity. The dictionary defines charity as simply the act of voluntarily giving to those in need. The word comes from the Latin word, "caritas" or simply love. For me, charity is practical. It is sometimes easy, and sometimes not so easy, but always necessary and requires action. I tis not only giving from the wallet but from the heart with the words I speak and good thoughts I show to my neighbors. I ask each members to do some good things for the Lodge this year - sign up new members, offer to help and support some of our Lodge events, and bring your family and friends to the Lodge often. This will support our Lodgeand show that Elks really do indeed live our mission. Again, I would like to welcome all our new members to Lancaster Elks Lodge. Please come in and enjoy the activity regularly.
Now I would like to take a moment to thank PER A. "Hamp" Hampton, PER Jack Gardner, and PER DJ Jaramillo for their time as Coach's for your 2008 Ritual Team, also thanks to Erik Hoffman, our Candidate this year. By the time you receive this newsletter we will have completed the Inland District part of the Ritual and I hope we did well.
I would also like to thank everyone who came to ER Beverly Jaramillo's Inaugural Ball to start her year off. A BIH THANK YOU to the following people who all worked on the 2008 Inaugural Ball committee: Carol and Gary Price, Bee Wright, Jeannie Wood, Sue Jones, Gloria Sifuentes, Brooke and Caitlyn Cantwell, Keith Timmons, Thora McElroy, Marcia Gagnon, Ronn Bann, Jerry and Sheila Mundell and most of all, my wife, Lori, who I could not have done without.

Loyal Knight's May Message
From the Station of Justice
Hello and thank you for giving me the honor to serve as your Loyal Knight for the 2008-2009 year.
As you know in the past I have always noted that it's the members that make the Lodge work. Remember you the members give the running of the Lodge to the Officers of your choice.
It's a great Lodge we have and we should all be very proud of what the past members of this Lodge left to us to protect. That is why we all need to be more involved in Lodge functions to make sure that our Lodge is around for many years to come.
What can YOU as members do? Inform your Officers of anything YOU see that can save this Lodge money. We all know that because of the increase of gas all the expenses of our Lodge will be going up.
Another big thing that can make this another year in the black is support the Lodge by giving of your time as Volunteers and just attending our weekly meetings is very important.
But the most important thing we can all do this year is have fun with our Brothers and Sisters Elks.
Have a good month and Let's keep our thoughts on saving money in our Lodge.
Your Loyal Knight,
George Olson
Lecturing Knight's May Message
From the Station of Brotherly Love
In our Lodge, the Lecturing Knight is the Chairman (person) of the Major Project Committee and also responsible for reporting weekly to the members of "Social and Community Welfare". While serving at this Station in the past, I had researched on how to initiate action to locate potential recipients for the Major Project therapy program in our Antelope Valley. At that time, norther Kern County was the closest locale with an individual receiving therapy. Having this task once again, new work will begin to find deserving children in our area.
The question of what is "social and community welfare" begs an answer.
Members at Lodge meeting applaud the report of "No Report". A report that I, shamefully, I have rendered more than once. While pondering on what to report on the subject, I discovered a program in our Elks National Foundation philanthropies that fits the bill perfectly. In 2007 a new program was initiated, entitled Community Improvement Program. Initially funded with $200K, the commitment for 2008-2009is $500,000.
Lodges must complete an application for an "IMact Grant" in an amount up to $10,K to be given to some deserving philanthropy in our community. The awards are competitive among Lodges applying, so the charity must be worthy and the application complete. Coopperating with our Elks National Foundation Chairman, Keith Timmons, I will see that a charity is chosen and the application is sent to Grand Lodge on time. This way, if successful, we can give back to our local community in a way we have not done previously, and as the process progresses, I will be able to give a meaningful report on "Social and Community Welfare".
Your Lecturing Knight,
Richard Rutherford
